Robert Jordan stayed at the top of the hardcovers with a big lead, while the next two books tied. Terry Pratchett made it onto the list with a UK import. New runner-up: Parable of the Talents by Octavia E. Butler (Seven Stories). There were 103 nominees, well up from last month's 88.

While Neverwhere remains at #1 for paperbacks, the Frankowski was not far behind. There was no new runner-up. Nominees: 117, to last month's 118.

Once more, for the start of the holiday season, The Mists of Avalon made the trade paperback list! The new runner-up was Spectrum 5, edited by Fenner & Fenner (Underwood). Nominees: 63, down from 72.

All four Dominion War ''Trek'' books showed up for media-related work, but Jeter's "Star Wars" title is still #1. New runner up: Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights: Crisis at Crystal Reef by Anderson & Moesta (Berkley Jam). We had 39 nominees, down from 41.

There were no new runners-up for gaming. Nominees: 27, down from 30.
