Jeter (St. Martins 0-312-00706-X, Apr 87, $16.95, 282pp, hc) The curious tale of a most unusual array of clockwork automations, this is set in a Victorian scene thats part-Lovecraftian, part-gonzo 19th century a la Powers and Blaylock (steam punk). Its one of the best works this sub-genre has produced, a wildly entertaining fantasy. Recommended. (FCM)
