Kiln People topped the hardcover category, with Fool’s Errand just a few points behind. Acorna’s Search by Anne McCaffrey & Elizabeth Ann Scarborough (Eos) was the new runner-up. We had 77 nominees, well below 93 last month.

Winter’s Heart dominated the paperback list, with The Skies of Pern a strong second. Ken MacLeod’s Cosmonaut Keep (Tor) was the new runner-up. Nominees: 60, down substantially from 79.

Tolkien titles took the top five slots on the trade paperback list again, with The Lord of the Rings in the top spot by a wide margin. The new runner-up was Nameless Cults: The Cthulhu Mythos Fiction of Robert E. Howard (Chaosium). Nominees: 59, one more than last month.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Dark Journey led media-related books by a slim margin. Nominees: 31, down slightly from 34.

MechWarrior: The Dying Time topped the gaming-related category by a solid margin. Nominees: 34, off from 36.
