The Shiva Option dominated the hardcover category with more than double the points of the next title. I Dare by Sharon Lee & Steve Miller (Meisha Merlin) was the new runner-up. We had 84 nominees, up from 77 last month.

The Skies of Pern topped paperbacks by a substantial margin. Sean Russell's The One Kingdom (HarperTorch) was the new runner-up. Nominees: 86, well up from 60.

The Lord of the Rings again led the trade paperback list by a wide margin. The new runner-up was The Black Chalice by Marie Jakober (Ace). Nominees: 63, up from 59.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Dark Journey had no close competition in media-related books. Nominees: 31, the same as last month.

Forgotten Realms: The Jewel of Turmish headed gaming-related titles. Nominees: 32, off from 34.

MechWarrior: The Dying Time topped the gaming-related category by a solid margin. Nominees: 34, off from 36.
