2023 Tomorrow Prize Finalists and Green Feather Winner

The Omega Sci-Fi Awards has announced the finalists for its Tomorrow Prize short story competition:

  • “What Lies Beyond”, Rafael Chavez
  • “Burn the World, Build with the Ashes”, Barrie Komsky
  • “Nights in the City”, Evin Manlapaz
  • “Obsolete”, Jasmine Sov

Honorable mentions were given to the following stories:

  • “Ocean Crash”, Acaju Gastelum
  • “Oh Kanada”, Isaac Graham
  • “Gehenna’s Sanctum”, Sadika Mahmud
  • “Time”, Luis Martinez
  • “Digital”, Natalie Martinez
  • “Valiente”, Valery Rodriguez

The Tomorrow Prize is open to Los Angeles County high school students. First place winner receives $250 and publication in L.A. Parent magazine. Second prize is $150, and third prize is $100.

Results of the 2023 Green Feather Award competition were also announced. The two winners are “Connections with Sage the Fungi” by Haifa Maung and Fia Layne and “Painting the Way through the Future” by Diana Pena.

Honorable mentions were given to the following stories:

  • “Dirty Waters”, Trotsky Cartagena
  • “Our Second Earth”, Abida Chowdhury
  • “Aqua”, Nafisa Islam
  • “A Manatee’s Hope”, Adam Kim
  • “The Box”, Giovanni Lorenzo
  • “Evolution is the Solution”, Aryan Punj, Hambee Makinoda, and Bato Euol

The Green Feather Award gives $250 for an environmentally focused story.

All finalists will have their stories performed by celebrity guests, and the winner will be announced during the Celebrity Readings & Honors in Pasadena, CA on May 20, 2023.
