- Rapunzella, or Don’t Touch My Black Hair, Ella McLeod (Scholastic)
- The Cats We Meet Along the Way, Nadia Mikail (Guppy)
- The Bird Singers, Eve Wersocki Morris (Hodder Childrens)
- The Haunting of Tyrese Walker, J.P. Rose (Andersen)
- If You Still Recognise Me, Cynthia So (Little Tiger)

The award is “given annually to the author of an outstanding debut novel for children.” The author and editor of the winning title each receive an engraved trophy, and the author receives £1,000.
