Baker & Taylor Ransomware Attack

Distributor Baker & Taylor spent over two weeks with their operations offline after they were targeted in a ransomware attack around August 20, 2022, crippling their ability to process orders. Their systems were restored in September, with a statement saying,

Bringing our systems back online safely and securely has been a top priority. Our internal technical teams with the support of external cyber-security experts have brought our servers and applications back online after thoroughly assessing and confirming their security. At this time, we do not believe there is any active malicious software in our environment, including any that would put our customers at risk.

The company initially cited a “server outage” impacting “systems and applications across B&T,” only acknowledging on August 26 that they were victims of a ransomware attack, later saying, “Cyber-attacks are an increasing threat to all companies, and unfortunately, we, like others fell victim to a hacker’s attack.”
