Costa Book Awards Ends After 50 Years

The Costa Book Awards are ending:

After 50 years of celebrating some of the most enjoyable books written by hugely talented authors from across the UK and Ireland, Costa Coffee has taken the difficult decision to end the Costa Book Awards.

The prizes presented in February 2022, for works from 2021, are the last that will be given. The Awards were known as the Whitbread Book Awards from their founding in 1971 to 2005, when Costa Coffee became the sponsor.

The awards were presented annually to books “by writers resident in the UK and Ireland” in five categories. Each category winner received £5,000, with an additional £30,000 “book of the year” award given for an overall winner. While not a genre award, the winner and nominee lists often included speculative work.
