Mayer, Sorg, and Wiggins Receive Solstice Awards

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) has announced Petra Mayer, Arley Sorg, and Troy L. Wiggins as recipients of the Kate Wilhelm Solstice Award “for distinguished contributions to the science fiction and fantasy community.”

The Solstice Award, created in 2008 and given at the discretion of the SFWA president with the majority approval of the Board of Directors, is for individuals, living or dead, who have had “a significant impact on the science fiction or fantasy landscape, and is particularly intended for those who have consistently made a major, positive difference within the speculative fiction field.” Previous winners include Octavia E. Butler, Alice B. Sheldon (AKA James Tiptree, Jr.), Tom Doherty, Carl Sagan, Stanley Schmidt, Michael Whelan, Kate Wilhelm, Terri Windling, Donald A. Wollheim, John Clute, Sir Terry Pratchett, Toni Weisskopf, Gardner Dozois, Sheila Williams, Neil Clarke, Nisi Shawl, David Gaughran, John Picacio, and most recently, Ben Bova, Rachel Caine, and Jarvis Sheffield.

The award will be presented during the 2022 SFWA Nebula Conference and Awards, to be held online, May 20-22, 2022.
