Tom Dupree (1949-2022)

Editor and author Tom Dupree, 72, died February 7, 2022 at home in New York City of cardio-respiratory arrest. Dupree was an editor at Bantam and HarperCollins, and co-editor of anthology Full Spectrum 5 with Jennifer Hershey & Janna Silverstein (1995). He began publishing short fiction with “The Wild Bunch” (1995), and several more stories appeared in anthologies under his own name and as Randall G. Thomas.

Dupree was born November 27, 1949 in Norfolk Virginia, and grew up there and in Jackson MS. He attended Millsap college, graduating in 1971, and earned a master’s in journalism at the University of Georgia in 1974. He worked as a copywriter before moving to New York to start a career in publishing. He began at Bantam in 1989, writing cover copy, and in time was promoted to senior editor. He left Bantam in 1997, moving to HarperCollins, where he was executive editor until 2001. He was later a freelance writer and editor.

He is survived by Linda, his wife of 30 years.
