The Horror Writers Association (HWA) has announced their Summer Scares Reading list for 2022.
ADULT
- The Remaking, Clay McLeod Chapman (Quirk)
- My Favorite Thing Is Monsters, Emil Ferris (Fantagraphics)
- Coyote Songs, Gabino Iglesias (Broken River)
YOUNG ADULT
- The Companion, Kate Alender (G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Young Readers)
- Clown in a Cornfield, Adam Cesare (HarperTeen)
- Agnes at the End of the World, Kelly McWIlliams (Little, Brown)
MIDDLE GRADE
- The Forgotten Girl, Indian Hill Brown (Scholastic)
- Scary Stories for Young Foxes, Christian McKay Heidicker (Henry Holt)
- Beetle & the Hollowbones, Aliza Layne (Antheneum)
The program is run in partnership with United for Libraries, Book Riot, and Library Journal/School Library Journal. “The goal of the program is to encourage a national conversation about the entire horror genre, across all age levels, at libraries all over the country and ultimately get more adults, teens, and children interested in reading.” The 2022 selection committee was Carolyn Ciesla, Kelly Jensen, Alma Katsu, Julia Smith, Becky Spratford, and Konrad Stump. The 2022 Summer Scares programming will be held online in conjunction with StokerCon, to be held May 13, 2022.
