2020 BBC National Short Story Award Shortlist

The five-title BBC National Short Story Award shortlist has been announced, with works by authors of genre interest including “In the Car With the Rain Coming Down” by Jan Carson, “The Grotesques” by Sarah Hall, and “Scrimshaw” by Eley Williams. This is the fourth time Hall has been shortlisted for the award.

The winner will be announced live on BBC Radio 4 Front Row on October 6, 2020. The winning writer will receive £15,000, and the other shortlisted authors will each get £600. All five stories will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Sounds in September 2020, and published in an anthology from Comma Press.

Judges for the 2020 award are Lucy Caldwell, Jonathan Freedland (chair), Irenosen Okojie, Chris Power, and Di Speirs.
