2020 Tähtifantasia Award Winner

Pienen hauen pyydystys by Juhani Karila (Siltala) won the the 2020 Tähtifantasia Award, presented by the Helsinki Science Fiction Society for the best Finnish fantasy book published in the previous year. Other nominees were:

  • Ikuisesti, siskoni, Katri Alatalo (Gummerus)
  • Pohjoisen mytologia [Norse Mythology], Neil Gaiman, translated by Jouko Ruokosenmäki (Like)
  • Hitonhauta ja muita puolielävien kohtaloita, Karoliina Heinola (Aarni)
  • Magian syvempi sävy [A Darker Shade of Magic], V.E. Schwab, translated by Mika Kivimäki (Karisto)

This is the 14th year of the award and the first time that novels originally written in Finnish, such as Karila’s, were eligible. The 2020 jurors were Jukka Halme, Aleksi Kuutio, and Osmo Määttä.
