Simon & Schuster CEO Carolyn Reidy, 71, died May 12, 2020 of a heart attack. She began her career in publishing in 1974, working in the subsidiary rights department at Random House, and rose to became associate publisher of the Random House imprint. In her long career she also served as publisher of Vintage Books, and was president and publisher of Avon. She joined S&S in 1992 as president of trade publishing, was promoted to president of the adult publishing group in 2001, and became president and CEO in 2008.
Carolyn Kroll was born May 2, 1949 in Washington DC. She attended Middlebury College, and earned an MA and Ph.D. in English from Indiana University. She is survived by her husband, Stephen Reidy.
