Swancon45 Canceled

Swancon, Australia’s longest-running science fiction convention, has been canceled for 2020 due to concerns over COVID-19. Swancon45 was scheduled to take place April 25-27, 2020 in Perth, Australia. The decision was made by a vote of the convention committee, convention steering committee, and the Western Australian Science Fiction Foundation (WASFF) board.

Early projections indicate that the height of the pandemic is likely to be late April to early May, and as such we would be irresponsible to hold a large public gathering, regardless of the amount of hand sanitizer and tissues we provided.

If you have already purchased a ticket, you can transfer it to next year’s Con or request a refund by emailing treasurer@swancon.com.au before May 1st. If you do not contact us, we will move your ticket forward to Swancon2021.

If you do elect to transfer your ticket to 2021 you’ll still be in the draw for the free overnight stay at the Duxton, to be used before the 3rd December 2020

We made this decision with very heavy hearts. We are hoping to organise some online events to still celebrate Swancon, so stay tuned for more details.

For more information, see the Swancon website.

Many other literary and publishing events have been canceled, including the London Book Fair, or postponed, including Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle and the Bologna Book Fair in Italy. We will continue to update about changes to upcoming SF/F events.
