Amazon has announced plans to open new branch offices for their headquarters in Long Island City neighborhood in Queens NY and in the Crystal City neighborhood in Arlington VA. The New York office will occupy four million square feet initially, with an option to double in size, and will employ around 25,000 people with an average salary of $150,000 a year; the size and staffing for the Arlington location are expected to be comparable. Several cities were considered for the new locations, with state and local governments offering various incentives to attract the ecommerce giant. New York State will pay $1.525 billion in “performance-based incentives” to Amazon, and Arlington will pay $573 million.
