Pratchett and Amis Win Galaxy National Book Awards

Terry Pratchett and Martin Amis each received an Award for Outstanding Achievement at the Galaxy National Book Awards held in London on November 10, 2010. These awards honor their “unrivalled contribution to the publishing industry.”

Commenting on his win, Pratchett said, “I’m amazed. You find something that you like doing, and do well, and keep on doing it, and suddenly they give you an award when all I really was doing was having lots of fun.”

The  Galaxy National Book Awards celebrates the best of British publishing, and prizes were given in several other categories, including popular fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books. Hilary Mantel was named UK Author of the Year.
