All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.
Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

J.K. Rowling's The Tales of Beedle the Bard, to be published Thursday December 4th, ranks #1 on all three Amazon lists today.
Meanwhile, Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, published 17 months ago in July 2007, has for the first time dropped off all lists compiled here, though it can still be found today just below Amazon.com's cutoff, at #104.
A bit coincidentally, the movie tie-in mass market paperback edition of Cormac McCarthy's The Road (Vintage) debuts on two lists this week, while the trade paperback edition falls off two lists and drops on a third.
All seven of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels still rank on the New York Times extended mass market fiction list, and on USA Today's list, this week.
