All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

Terry Pratchett's latest Discworld novel Making Money has just been published, both in the UK and the US. The UK edition, after ranking on Amazon UK with pre-publication sales for the past four months or so, ranks #2 today, now that the book has been released. Pratchett is far more popular in the UK than in the US; the US edition ranks only #76 today on Amazon.com, after only two previous weeks of pre-publication sales rankings. J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, though absent by design from several lists, still ranks #6 this week on San Francisco Chronicle's fiction hardcover list and on USA Today's combined list, #13 today at Amazon.com, #22 at Amazon UK, #10 at Amazon Canada. The late Madeleine L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time ranks #123 on Amazon.com's list today.
