All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.

Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

Thomas Pynchon's Against the Day (Penguin) debuts on print lists this week -- at #1 in San Francisco, #10 in Washington DC, #13 in New York, and #11 on Publishers Weekly's national list. Stephen King's Lisey's Story is still doing well, in the top 10 on four of the print lists compiled here. The paperback of his previous novel, Cell (Pocket Star) debuts high on the same four print lists this week. Thomas Harris' Hannibal Rising (Delacorte) ranks fairly high on all three Amazon lists today, despite killer reader reviews on the US site.
