Job Openings at Experience Science Fiction

The following positions are open at the Experience Science Fiction Museum that will open in Seattle in June 2004.



Director, Curatorial Affairs, Experience Science Fiction
Seattle, WA

This position is the Curatorial department head for Experience Science Fiction (ESF) and is responsible for working with key members of the Experience Learning Community (ELC) leadership team to develop and execute ESF’s mission, strategic plan, budget, fundraising, and goals. Oversees, plans and administers all phases of curatorial activities for ESF. Responsibilities: Acts as ambassador and liaison to the science fiction community, including public speaking, articles, convention appearances and general public. Provides leadership in creation of exhibitions within ESF. Provides knowledge of SF history and culture through interpretation and verification of collections. Oversees collections acquisition and de-accession. Designs & implements collection research program. Qualifications: Advanced degree in Arts or Museum Mgmt, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education & experience. A minimum of ten yrs of professional-level experience in a museum setting, with at least five years of supervisory/management responsibilities. Evidence of scholarly research and writing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Proven general staff development and management capabilities. Program Manager, Experience Science Fiction
Seattle, WA
The Education Program Manager’s primary responsibilities are to create and implement educational programs and events in an effort to realize ESF’s educational mission. This includes generating proposals and managing the implementation and production of educational events for all ages at the museum and with partnering organizations. Together with the Education Department management team, this position works collaboratively with Public Programs, Curatorial & Collections, and supporting departments, to contribute educational components for institution based exhibits and signature programs. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree (preferred) in Math, Science, Education, Liberal Arts or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of related educational programming experience required. Ability to work effectively with public as well as teachers, artists, youth, and business and community leaders. Science Fiction related curatorial, writing, editing, and/or programming experience desired. Experience in community or event organizing. Knowledge of Seattle-area science, arts, education and/or community institutions. Experience with incorporating technology in education.
