Winter's Heart completely dominated the hardcover category for the second month straight; The Redemption of Althalus and A Storm of Swords were within two points of tying for second place. Joe Haldeman's The Coming (Ace) was the new runner-up. We had 87 nominees, up from 79 last month.

Ender's Shadow had no close competition in the paperback category, and Phule Me Twice beat out the next contender 2:1. New runner-up: Down to the Sea by William R. Forstchen (Roc). Nominees: 89, down from 95.

Cryptonomicon led the trade paperback list for the third month in a row (and six of the last eight). New runner-up: His Dark Materials 1: The Golden Compass (Knopf), by Philip Pullman. Nominees: 62, down from 64.

Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Balance Point moved into a solid first place in the media-related category. Nominees: 32, the same as last month.

Forgotten Realms: Servant of the Shard held onto its lead over the other gaming-related books. Nominees: 27, up from 18 last month.
