For hardcovers, Stardust jumped into first with a good lead; the illustrated version also received a couple of votes. There was a rare three-way tie for #7, including another Gaiman book. New runner-up: Fortress of Owls by C.J. Cherryh (HarperPrism). There were 83 nominees, to last month's 80.

The latest Eddings rules the paperbacks, but a Gaiman work shows up here too. New runner-up: Dragon Ultimate by Christopher Rowley (Roc). Nominees: 100, just up from 97.

Even past the holidays, The Mists of Avalon still tops the trade paperbacks. The new runner-up is The Warrior King by Chris Bunch (Warner Aspect). Nominees: 67, to last month's 61.

Sheckley's book now leads the media-related books. There was no new runner up. We had 47 nominees, up from 41.

TSR took control of gaming this time, with Margaret Weis leading the way, but not many stores gave gaming-related info. Nominees: 14, down from 20.
