All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Dates shown are posted dates, except those in parentheses, which are dates compiled. New York Times posts its list one week in advance of print publication.
Note that some sources do not compile paperback bestsellers, and some exclude YA books (like the Harry Potter series) from their hardcover and paperback fiction lists.

For the second week in a row, a new fantasy novel debuts in the top spot on the New York Times fiction hardcover list -- this week it's Jim Butcher's Changes (Roc), 12th book in his Dresden Files series. It's also #1 at Washington Post and Publishers Weekly; #3 at USA Today.
Last week's debut, Patricia Brigg's Silver Borne, debuts on two more lists this week, ranking among the top 10 on three lists.
A couple other hardcovers debut here and there: a gaming tie, Starcraft II: Heaven's Devils by William C. Dietz (Pocket), ranks a remarkable #4 on the Washington Post list; and Raymond E. Feist's At the Gates of Darkness (Eos), ranks #21 on the New York Times list.
The paperback event of the week is the mass market reprint of Charlaine Harris' eighth Sookie Stackhouse novel Dead and Gone (Ace), which debuts on three lists, ranking #2 on two of them. (The next Sookie Stackhouse novel, Dead in the Family, has been on Amazon lists for four months, and will be published on May 4th.)
