Royal Society of Literature Fellows

Several writers of genre interest were among the 31 new Fellows introduced into the Royal Society of Literature (RSL) in a ceremony held June 4, 2018 in London UK:

  • Naomi Alderman
  • Ken Follett
  • Neil Gaiman
  • Mohsin Hamid
  • Frances Hardinge
  • Anthony Horowitz
  • Philip Kerr
  • Adam Roberts
  • Bryan Talbot
  • Louise Welsh

Potential new Fellows must have had published in the United Kingdom at least two substantial works (or a sufficient body of other work) in the English language of outstanding literary merit. They are first nominated by an existing Fellow; that nomination must then be seconded by another Fellow.

The authors signed the RSL roll book using fountain pens that once belonged to Lord Byron, George Eliot, and T.S. Eliot. The roll book contains signatures of Fellows since 1820 when the RSL was founded.

For more information, including a complete list of current Fellows, see the RSL website.

While you are here, please take a moment to support Locus with a one-time or recurring donation. We rely on reader donations to keep the magazine and site going, and would like to keep the site paywall free, but WE NEED YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT to continue quality coverage of the science fiction and fantasy field.
