Amazon Launches New Imprint

Locus Magazine, Science Fiction FantasyAmazon has launched an imprint of Amazon Publishing called Amazon Original Stories, publishing short fiction and non-fiction works meant to be read in a single sitting. They’ll be priced at $1.99 in the Kindle store, and free for Amazon Prime members. The first titles include The Sign of the Beast by Joyce Carol Oates (already available), and there are works scheduled by Dean Koontz and many others. The program seems to be a continuation of the “Kindle Singles” imprint, with Singles editorial director Julia Sommerfeld now editorial director of Amazon Original Stories. She says, “The goal of Amazon Original Stories is to champion stories, essays, and reporting by the premiere storytellers of our time and to introduce unforgettable new voices.”
