Peggy Rae Sapienza Endowment

Chicon 7, the 70th World Science Fiction Convention, August 30 – September 3, 2012 in Chicago IL, created the Peggy Rae Sapienza Endowment to benefit the special collections library at Northern Illinois University. Chair Dave McCarty announced the initial endowment of $25,000 during the Nebula Awards Weekend reception on June 5, 2015 at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.

The endowment is the last of Chicon 7’s surplus funds, and is intended to advance the library’s efforts to collect materials related to SF, fantasy, and horror, and to make those materials available to the public. It is named in honor of convention organizer Peggy Rae Sapienza, who passed away in March.
