Stephen Baxter Wins Philip K. Dick Award

Stephen Baxter's Vacuum Diagrams (HarperPrism) has won the 1999 Philip K. Dick Award. The announcement was made April 21, 2000 at Norwescon 23 in Seattle WA. The award comes with a prize of $1,500.

A special citation and $500 was given to Jamil Nasir for Tower of Dreams (Bantam Spectra). Neither winner was present.

The award, given annually for distinguished SF published as a paperback original in the US, is sponsored by the Philadelphia SF Society and administered by editors David G. Hartwell and Gordon Van Gelder. The award ceremony is sponsored by the Northwest SF Society. 1999 judges were Julie Czerneda (chair), Catherine Asaro, Paul Di Filippo, Charles Oberndorf, and David Porush.
