Earlier this week, Being John Malkovich placed second, after American Beauty, among the top ten films of 1999 as voted by the Online Film Critics Society. The Society voted Charlie Kaufman's script the Best Original Screenplay, Catherine Keener as Best Supporting Actress for her role in the same film, and director Spike Jonze won the award for Best Debut. Other films ranking in the Society's top 10: Fight Club number 3; Toy Story 2 number 5; Magnolia number 6; The Green Mile number 8; Eyes Wide Shut number 9; and The Blair Witch Project number 10.

The O.F.C.S. voted several other awards to films with SF/F/H credentials: Haley Joel Osment won as Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Sixth Sense; Marc Shaiman was for Best Original Score for his musical compositions in South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut; Emmanuel Lubezki won the Best Cinematography award for Sleepy Hollow; The Blair Witch Project won the award for Best Official Website (which is www.blairwitch.com); and Run Lola Run, a German-language film that can be viewed as an exercise in alternate timelines and chaos theory, won for Best Foreign Language Film and for Best Editing (Mathilde Bonnefoy). In addition, Roger Ebert on Movies won as Best Film Review Website and the Internet Movie Database won a Special OFCS Award.
