SFFH on Bestseller Lists: 20 August 2000

Iain M. Banks's Look to Windward debuts on the Times of London hardcover fiction list at #8. It hasn't placed on Amazon UK's weekly list (yet), but it was at the top of Amazon UK’s hourly-updated ‘Hot 100’ list when we checked in on Saturday 19 August.

David and Leigh Edding’s The Redemption of Althalus slipped a notch at both Amazon UK and the Times of London.

The paperback of Dean Koontz's False Memory, just out in the UK, placed #5 on the Times of London fiction paperback list.

In the US, the Los Angeles Times updated its occasional children's bestseller list this week. BookSense's children's list includes Marc Shapiro's J.K. Rowling biography at #10. For a second week, Robin Hobb's Ship of Destiny and Harry Turtledove's The Great War: Breakthroughs place low on the New York Times list; this week Hobb ranks on Amazon's fiction hardcover list too.
This cell color indicates forthcoming books: Amazon US/UK not-yet-published (NYP) rankings This cell color indicates ineligible titles, e.g. YA titles excluded from fiction lists, or no paperback lists This cell color indicates stale data; e.g., children's bestseller lists updated only monthly

The table compiles SFFH books placing 15th or higher on general bestseller lists (30th or higher on the combined USA Today list). The current rank of each book and the change since last week are shown, where:
   = same as last week
   + or - with number: difference since last week
   + back on list
   ++ new on list
   x no longer on list (number of x's: weeks off list)
   () below cut-off but noted anyway
   -- previously noted anyway but now nowhere in sight
   nyp Not-yet-published (pre-ordered)

Columns show ranks on lists from, respectively, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USA Today, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, London Times, Publishers Weekly, BookSense, Amazon.com (fiction lists), and Amazon UK (fiction lists). All lists rank hardcovers and paperbacks separately, except for the USA Today list, which is a single list combining fiction and nonfiction in all formats. Some books are on separate general [nonfiction] lists (gen), children's lists (ch), trade paperback lists (tpb), or mass market paperback lists (mm), as indicated.
