For hardcovers, the new Laurell K. Hamilton jumped to the top with a big lead. Only the top five titles had significant figures, and many stores complained of slow sales. New runner-up: Sixty Years of Arkham House by S.T. Joshi (Arkham House). We had 91 nominees, up from 82 last month.
Now in paperback, Stardust had a strong showing, and the Vinge also did very well. The new runner-up is Stardoc by S.L. Viehl (Roc). Nominees: 96, to last month's 97.
Once again, we almost had a tie for #1 in trade paperbacks. The Lord of the Rings returned after two months away. There was no new runner-up. We had 58 nominees, down from 60.
The top three media-related books were very close, with a tie for second place. Nominees: 37, same as last month.
In gaming-related, the new ''DragonLance'' had more than twice the mentions of the #2 book. Nominees: 26, to last month's 25.
